Building a Spiritual Base + Creating a Safer Space for Self: Meditation & Zine Making

About this event

4pm - 5:30pm Building a Spiritual Base

hosted by Thabile Makue

After many months of inundating rage at my ex spouse for the way our relationship played out, I had a shining moment of clarity. I did not want to be the sort of person who could be in a relationship like that; I did not know how to love; I wanted to learn how to love myself.

I had only a budding spiritual connection at the time. I had been initiated as an African Traditional Healer, working with an ancestral practise that had progressively supported opening up my senses to more of the spiritual realm. I knew how to connect with my ancestors, how to take a step because I felt pulled to it - even if I didn’t understand what was nudging me, I knew a little bit about prayer, meditation, and forgiveness. I knew just enough to make the prayer that changed everything.

I was walking back from a therapy session, exhausted to still be angry and hurt, and I said, “Teach me how to love myself.” And Spirit answered in that very instant, and every moment afterward was a lesson in stripping away all the noise so that I could hear the answer.

This is what it means to build a spiritual base. It is not to build at all, but to allow the destruction of all you’ve built against the love that is the answer, that is the connection, that is the meaning, that is the purpose, and that is the God you are seeking.

In this 90 min class, we’ll learn how to make that prayer, how to open to the destruction of what is not real, and surrender to what is.
